Johnson's papers consist of correspondence with Morris Skinner, 1973-1983, and include maps, charts, and data on Nebraska fossil quarries, and drafts and various portions of the publication with Skinner, "Tertiary Stratigraphy and the Frick Collection of Fossil Vertebrates from North-central Nebraska." Field notebooks of Nebraska geological trips with Skinner, 1961-1981. In addition, photocopies of Johnson's field notes describing his paleontological collecting work in Nebraska, 1931-1935; and photocopies of field notes and diaries of R.A. Stirton providing detailed descriptions.

Erwin H. Barbour was born in Springfield, Indiana, on April 5, 1856. He received both his A.B. in 1882 and Ph.D. in 1887 from Yale University. He worked for the United States Paleontological Survey from 1882 to 1888 before becoming professor of natural history and geology at Iowa College in Grinnell, Iowa.
